European Commission opens case against TikTok over alleged addictive features of TikTok Lite and aims to suspend the reward programme in the EU.
Why it matters: this is the second enforcement proceeding launched against TikTok under the DSA, with an earlier case focused on a broader list of potential breaches, including risk management of addictive design, grounds cited in this case. The Digital Services Act (DSA) is the EU's landmark digital rulebook which requires the very largest digital services to carry out risk assessments before rolling out new features likely to impact their systemic risks. TikTok meets the threshold of 45 million monthly active users and falls in the category of very large online platforms, with the broadest obligations subject to the oversight of the European executive.
